Driving Posture Matters
/If you have ever felt the aches, pains and stiffness associated with time spent behind the wheel you may be interested to know there are some relatively simple steps we can take to improve our driving posture and eliminate or reduce those problems.
Perhaps you are in the driving seat of a commercial vehicle most days or simply behind the wheel commuting to work or dropping the kids at school in the family car and may not be aware of the longer-term damage to your back health. Consider these points for better driving posture.
How to sit ergonomically in a vehicle
Check your position in the chair
Slide your hips as close to the back of the seat as possible but still be able to reach and use the pedals comfortably. Be sure not to lean your chair back too far as this forces your head and neck forward and can typically result in neck and shoulder pain along with tingling in the fingers.
Adjust and personalise
Don’t be straining unnecessarily; small adjustments to mirrors, seat, head rest and steering wheel height can increase your comfort in the driving seat. Use the armrests for support and to reduce fatigue.
Add lumbar support
Some car seats don’t adequately accommodate the curve of the lower back, putting additional strain on the spine. At AirCare Systems we supply external lumbar support that you can easily attach to your driving seat.
Take breaks
Even with improved driving posture we still need to take breaks every hour or so in order to allow the blood to flow properly around the body. Compact cars may have less legroom and head space, meaning some drivers will contort their bodies into unhealthy positions.
Suppling parts for commercial vehicle seating
At AirCare Systems we manufacture the components for various types of vehicle seating. We use our seating expertise in conjunction with designers to create custom automotive seating solutions. We know that ergonomic car seats help to create good driving posture and reduce the risk of chronic pain making drivers vulnerable to more injuries. Our dynamic automotive seating approach delivers the ideal solution to back problems related to extended time behind the wheel.
